Play That Song came from second last to score a big win at Bendigo on Wednesday, the sixth winner for Ballymore Stables in the last two weeks.

First-up since last September, Play That Song had just one behind her around the home turn but finished powerfully to overwhelm the $2.40 favourite Indrabeel and win the 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1300m) going away by one length.

Stablemate Nanita found some traffic in the home straight before finishing 10th but all honours in the race belong to Play That Song.

Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said the three-year-old daughter of Smart Missile looked set for a good campaign.

“Mike has always had a good opinion of her and her work on Saturday morning suggested she was ready to run well,” Turnbull said.

“She’s done really well to come from so far back and it was a soft win on the line - she had the blinkers off today and it’s certainly promising at this stage of her campaign.

“She should only improve from here.”

Jason Benbow said Play That Song was slow to find her stride.

“She dawdled out and got herself out of position but it was a nice enough tempo and we were able to track up into it around the turn,” Benbow said.

“She gave me a really good feel on Saturday morning and she’s lived up to that today.

“She’s promised a lot so good to see her get a win on the board and I think she’ll have bigger fish to fry when she gets over a bit further.”

Play That Song (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Paul Moroney at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale for $270,000 and was one of two winners on Wednesday for Arrowfield stallion Smart Missile.
