Monaco Consul draws ideally in Caulfield Cup

One trainer who was not bothered by only outside gates being left as he made his Caulfield Cup barrier draw selection was Michael Moroney who was keen to see Monaco Consul "draw unfavourably!"
And he did just that - 15 not the sort of gate most want, but just the right one for the talented four-year-old entire who has never been at his best amongst other horses.
Drawn in at his most recent outing in the Turnbull Stakes, the reigning VRC Derby winner was never very happy in the running but he has pleased the stable with his work since and this week's Melbourne rain has connections smiling.
'I was a little disappointed in his last run,"  Moroney conceded, "but he did get crowded up mid-race."

''He is not happy being crowded up, the jockey spent most of his time getting off the fence. His 600m sectionals were good and he is ready for the 2400m."
Third in this year's AJC Derby on a dead track, Monaco Consul boasts excellent wet track form - easily winning the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes on heavy going.
Changes in gear should also help Monaco Consul with his quest to become a Caulfield Cup winner.
''We had a bit of a fiddle around with his gear and it hasn't worked so we'll go back to the original gear,'' Moroney said. ''We'll take the one-eyed blinker off and put the pacifiers and crossover noseband back on.''
Ballymore wishes the owners - Gerard Peterson and Owen Glenn - the best of luck with Monaco Consul. The Caulfield Cup is a race we are especially keen to win having been denied a chance when the well fancied Eskimo Queen came out at the gates three years ago.
