SAVILE ROW CAN LOOK SHARP AT RANDWICK

Just the one runner on Grand Final day but a good one as Savile Row tackles the Group I Epsom Handicap at Randwick.

Mike Moroney had been considering the Group I Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday but after considering the options elected to run in Sydney.

“We just felt the mile race suited him at this stage,” Moroney said. “The Caulfield race can often turn messy and we don’t want to have a wasted run with him.

“He’s very well and his work since the first-up run has been excellent.”

Savile Row resumed when unplaced in the Bobbie Lewis Quality down the straight at Flemington however, Moroney explained there were extenuating circumstances.

“We were anticipating the horse could settle with some cover then come late but there was no pace at all in the first half of the race,” Moroney said.

“That left him exposed into the breeze and he wanted to over race so under the circumstances we didn’t learn a lot.

“The field has fallen away a wee bit in the Epsom, it’s a million dollar race and he’s only got a postage stamp on his back for a Group One horse.

“This run will decide which direction we take with him the rest of the spring but if he brings his A-game then we think he can run very well at big odds.”

Jay Ford will ride Savile Row who will jump from barrier five after scratchings.
