A rare midweek meeting at Flemington on Wednesday and Ballymore Stables has three runners.

Born To Fight (pictured) is the first to go in the second race, the Rose Of May Handicap over 1400m.

It is a step up in distance for the three-year-old however, trainer Mike Moroney feels it will suit the son of Street Boss.

“We’re very happy with him and he’s worked well since his last start,” Moroney said.

“Obviously he’s into city class now but looking at the field and the way he has done I think he can run a very good race.

“He’s drawn nicely in six and the rail is out a fair way so he should get a nice run and with even luck I do think he can be in the finish.”

Maria Elisa is in the fourth race, the Have you RSVP’d Handicap over the straight 1000m for three-year-old fillies.

The daughter of Denman has pleased Moroney since her encouraging jumpout three weeks ago.

“We wouldn’t normally go to the races off just one jumpout but she pulled up so well and has done so well since that this race looked to suit her,” Moroney said.

“There isn’t another 1000 metre race for a while so we didn’t want to let this one pass us by.

“She’s still a little bit wintery in the coat still but very happy with the way she is working so if she can get a soft run and relax then she can certainly be competitive.”

Play That Song is in the sixth race, the VRC Oaks Trial over 1800m and Moroney has added blinkers on the daughter of Smart Missile.

“She doesn’t have great gate speed so from where she is drawn (nine) we’re anticipating she can drop out the back and keep out of trouble,” Moroney said.

“I think the key will be to get her into a rhythm and then she can build to run home.

“The main thing we’d like to see is having her running on and I do think the step up in distance will suit her.”
