AN EXCITING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND LAYS AHEAD

Tribal Wisdom kicks us off for day two of the Randwick Championships where he’s drawn nicely from barrier 3 in the $A600,000 Gr.2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint over 1200m with stable rider Patrick Moloney aboard.

We couldn’t be any happier with this son of Makfi who comes off an outstanding black type win last time out. He has a nice draw here and with the track looking like it will come back to the soft range, conditions should suit.

Ideally, we would see him use his draw and gate speed to be handy in the running – though this galloper has now proved, with his two striking wins, that he can deliver the goods in fine style from both behind and a front running position.
This is big rise in class for him and he is up against group class company, though we hold him in very high regard and have nothing but confidence in his ability heading into this race.

Then we see stablemates Mister Impatience and Vengeur Masque taking their places in the $A2 million Gr.1 Schweppes Sydney Cup over 3200m.

Mister Impatience who made his way back across the ditch earlier this week has drawn barrier 2 with Jay Ford taking the reins. He travelled over brilliantly, has continued to eat well and settled comfortably back in – just like the professional he is. He’s looking and feeling in outstanding order, has produced some grand work this week, is well weighted and the two-mile trip is right up his avenue.

Vengeur Masque comes off a superb run in the Mornington Cup to have his first crack over the two miles with Patrick Moloney aboard. The barrier 14 draw will force him into going forward in the early stages and he will get every chance to run a strong race with the very capable Moloney aboard. The 3200m trip is the unknown, but what we do know is that this son of Monsun has had a fantastic preparation, has plenty of ability and is well weighted.

Over at Caulfield, we kick off with Yesterday’s Songs who resumes this prep from barrier 3 in the Sandown Park (UK) Handicap event over 1000m with Jake Bayliss aboard.
This son of Henrythenavigator is a very interesting runner … a group class horse who on his day is a fantastic galloper. He heads into this race fresh and we think that we have him in the right space both physically and mentally. If he brings his best self for the occasion, he should be a strong contender.

Araldo Junior, also ridden by Jake Bayliss, then takes his place in the JRA Handicap over 2400m from a tricky barrier draw of 13. He meets a reasonably strong field and will have to do some early work to get across, but this improving stayer has trained on well, is up to the distance and is a nice chance in this race if he gets the right run from the draw.

To round off the busy weekend, Patrick Moloney takes the reins of up and coming stayer Dodge City as he lines up in the Quest Echuca Maiden Plate over 2100m from a nice barrier draw of 2. The addition of blinkers, and a step up in distance should suit this son of High Chaparral who, with luck in running, we expect to break his maiden this weekend.
