Top of the Range (pictured) lived up to his name last night with a huge run and dominant win against all odds at Pakenham in the Maiden Plate over 1400m.

Spending much of his energy putting in quite the performance in his prelim which resulted in him very nearly being scratched; it certainly looked like this was a horse that had run his race before arriving at the start – making his total domination of the field even more impressive.

"Luckily, stable rider Patrick Moloney, knowing this behaviour was largely out of character, encouraged and persevered with this talented galloper which ultimately got us out of the gates" said Moroney

After barrier trialling in New Zealand, this is one that Mike Moroney thought was a Victorian Derby prospect; despite getting colty at times, he always showed great promise. Following his arrival in Australia, he once again barrier trialled before having a late 2yo start. It was then that an atrial fibrillation was discovered resulting in this galloper being treated and turned out for a spell. It was during that break away that he was also gelded.

Bred by the in-form Bax family and selected by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock on behalf of GSA Bloodstock from the Blandford Lodge draft at Karaka’s 2015 Premier Sale, this son of Savabeel out of Montjeu mare Spiriting is without doubt one to watch.

Congratulations to winning connections Pinecliff Racing, R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd and Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd.

Meanwhile, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Whosyourhousemate took out the Median Auction Maiden Stakes over 1600m at Southwell in the UK on only his second start. This gelding who is trained by Ed Vaughan in Newmarket was selected by Paul Moroney Bloodstock on behalf of the Ballymore Downunder Syndicate - a syndicate established with sights set on buying quality staying prospects for Australia. With an encouraging third and a win from two runs now notched up, this one is looking every bit a promising galloper.
