3YO Pair Take on Black-Type Company

Three-year-old stable mates No Fuss Guss (Savabeel x Pin Oak) and Avec Moi (Pour Moi x Fuji Belle) will be out to acquire some highly sought after black-type when they line up at their respective events today at Otaki and tomorrow at Ellerslie.

No Fuss Gus (pictured) was impressive on debut over 1200m and was one of the eye catching performances at Tauranga last start when running fourth behind boom filly Volpe Veloce.

Drawing barrier nine in the Lucia Valentina Wellington Stakes over 1600m, No Fuss Gus will be ridden by Matthew Cameron and should relish the step up in distance.

“He’s still very green and is taking improvement with each race,” co-trainer Pam Gerard said.

“The 1600m should prove to be no problem and he deserves a chance at this level – he is nominated for the Derby and today we will get a good line on him.”

Another progressive three-year-old is Avec Moi who lines up in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial Stakes over 1500m at Ellerslie on Saturday and has again drawn ideally in barrier five.

The last start winner will be partnered again by senior rider Cameron Lammas and is another who should relish the step up in distance.

“There’s plenty of quality about this filly and she just loves to race,” Gerard said.

“She’s bred to run over ground, and anything less is a bonus at this stage. We have a lot of time for her and she’s certainly one to keep an eye on over the summer and autumn period.”

Also heading to Ellerslie is the luckless Soul Sista who will attempting to turn her fortunes around in the Rating 65 event over 1600m.

“She couldn’t be working better, we just need a few things to fall our way on race day, but there is no doubt a win is in store shortly.”

“The draw is perfect for her and she should be able stay out of trouble. If she can acquire a trouble free run we think she is right up to winning.”
