Terrific Tivaci

Any win in a feature race is a nice one but Tivaci's performance in Saturday's Group Three Sunshine Coast Guineas was a particuarly satisfying one as he is a horse the stable has always had a big opinion of.

From early days considered by Michael Moroney a Group One prospect, Tivaci has been a work in progress and even though he was dominant at his most recent outing, he still did a bit wrong.

"He won by 1 1/4 which was impressive," Moroney said, "but if not for him wanting to run out towards the outside rail it could have been five lengths."

Moroney has seen Tivaci accelerate in the style of a top horse in track work and is excited about the son of High Chaparral's prospects at four and beyond.

"I know what a Group One winner can do and this fellow works like a top horse," he enthused.

"He has the turn of foot only the good ones have and I think we will see that eventually, it is just a matter of him doing everything right."

It was the stable's second Sunshine Coast Guineas winner with Shenzhou Steeds saluting in 2011. And the form from last year's running has stacked up well - the winner 12 months ago being none other than Winx.

The stable's good run looks set to continue this week with two particuarly nice horses heading to Canterbury on Wednesday; Golden Patch and Fortune Patch.

Facing a rise in class and distance after a dominant maiden victory at Newcastle in mid-May, Golden Patch has pleased with his progress since.

"Whilst he is stepping up in grade it does not look an especially strong race," said Moroney, "and he should again prove hard to beat."

Same goes for Fortune Patch who was so impressive leading throughout at Canterbury a few weeks ago.

"It does not look too much of a harder race. It was a very good win last start and he looks to be a very good chance again."
