Big Debut By Karpacz

Debut winners do not come much more impressive than Karpacz who proved a class above his rivals racing clear to a four length victory at Echuca on Monday.

Warmly supported having trialled well at Cranbourne a month previously, the son of Danzero jumped well from an inside gate, holding his position well even when a couple took off around him approaching the turn.

Needing luck entering the straight, Karpacz was fortunately presented with a gap which he took without hesitation - quickly getting clear.

"He did everything right," Greg Hoysted enthused. "He travelled beautifully and just need that split. When it came he put them away pretty easily."

Jockey Jordan Childs was impressed, saying that apart from a bit of laying in late that Karpacz showed a good level of professionalism for a first starter.

"He jumped well and held his spot and when the gap came he quickened well."

"The more mature he gets," he added, "the more races he will win."
Raced by Ballymore Stables Australia, R & C Legh Racing and Kariba Racing,
Karpacz was spotted by Paul Moroney at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier.

Bred by Carrington Park, Karpacz - who is named after a Polish spa town - is the second foal and second winner produced by the placed Savabeel mare Li'l Miss Hayley, half-sister to the dam of the Gr.3 winners Perfect Start and Art Beat.

It will be straight to town for Karpacz with an upcoming race at Moonee Valley earmarked for the exciting three-year-old.

It has been a great winning run for the stable, one which we are confident can continue at Sandown on Wednesday where the first of our two runners is the in-form Rising Stock.

A determined winner of his last two, the Tavistock four-year-old faces another rise in grade but has drawn barrier one with Craig Williams to take the ride.

"It might not be the best barrier on a heavy track but the beauty with Rising Stock is that he has good gate speed and he can make his own luck. If the better going is out wide he can get across," Michael Moroney said.

Pleasantly surprised by the will to win displayed by the previously enigmatic Rising Stock at his last two starts, Moroney is looking for another bold showing.

"We do not do a lot with him in between runs but he has trained on well and his attitude is good."

A few races later we have the consistent Bonnie Belle lining up in the 1700m event and we are hoping she can break through after seconds - three in a row!

"She certainly deserves a win," said Moroney who describes the daughter of Keeper as "a robust mare who takes her racing well."

Drawn nicely in barrier six, Bonnie Belle will again be partnered by Dwayne Dunn.

We have another two nice prospects racing at Bendigo on Thursday, the first of which is Spanks in the opening event, an 1100m contest for two-year-old fillies.

A game second at her Pakenham debut, the daughter of Magic Albert has progressed nicely since with Moroney's main concern being her barrier draw - 16.

Such a gate often sees us scratch but there is just the one turn at the Bendigo 1100m and Moroney said that the filly "has taken good improvement from her debut."

Sound Works, who has been racing with mixed luck in Sydney, is back in the Flemington stables and her Victorian debut comes in the 1100m BM fillies and mares contest.

With her Sydney rider Christian Reith telling us that she is a filly of stakes potential -but how just needs the sting out of the track - we have brought her back home in search of wet tracks.

Which she gets on Thursday. "She has been up for a while but she has settled back at Flemington very well and she is an interesting runner," said Moroney.
