Stable Flying!

What great form the stable has been in both in Australia and New Zealand of late - a stakes success at Tauherenikau on Monday and two winners in two days in Victoria.

Particuarly impressive was Wichita Woman first up at Sale on Sunday, the lightly raced three-year-old recording a barnstorming victory in a 1411m maiden.

Getting a fair way back, the daughter of High Chaparral spotted her rivals around eight lengths turning, swinging widest into the straight and really rocketing home.

"She has a big motor," enthused jockey Nick Hall who was riding the bay for the first time.

"I liked how strong she was at the finish, she has a future for sure."

And we agree, Michael Moroney hopeful of getting Wichita Woman to a Classic this time in - the AJC Oaks a major consideration.

"She is a late foal and still bit backward mentally but she is a lovely staying filly with real talent."

Spotted by Paul Moroney at the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Wichita Woman is raced by a large group led by Ballymore Stables Australia. She is a half-sister to the dual stakes winner Galizani out of a daughter of Zabeel and the Flight Stakes winner Danarani.

The winning form continued at Tatura on Monday with a gutsy performance by Rising Stock who dug deep late after doing early work.

Jumping fast and looking ready to take a comfortable lead, Rising Stock proved "a bit of a handful" for Jake Noonan, not really wanting to take the clear lead early, needing to be urged forward.

And from the 600m onwards he was on the wrong leg, making it difficult for himself and rider. But when challenged late he found plenty, sticking his nose out where it counted.

"Fortunately he has enough ability to hold them off even when he does things wrong," Noonan reported, Moroney concurring - "he did a good job. He has real talent and he tries hard."

A bargain Karaka purchase for Paul, Rising Stock is a son of Tavistock and the Stravinsky mare Wahaha, a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner Wall Street.

A last start winner is our only midweek runner, Courageous Rock (pictured) heading to Sandown on Wednesday.

Too strong over 2200m at Bendigo last time out, the imported galloper was impressive and a step up to 2400m should suit all the more.

"He has been up a while," said Moroney, "but he has trained on nicely and he is going really well."
