Big Win for Lord Disick

What a tough and determined win it was by Lord Disick in the All Too Hard Handicap at Randwick on Wednesday, the promising son of Pentire enduring a tough run on a track that did not really suit... but he wanted the win!

Working hard covering plenty of extra ground, Lord Disick loomed up wide at the turn, taking the lead only to be joined at the 250m by the regally bred Chris Waller trained import Now's The Time who looked to have him covered.

But our boy really fought, getting into a bumping duel with the runner up but putting his nose out right where it counted to record the third success of his 12 start career.

"He is a pretty good horse," said our Sydney foreman Robbie Hewetson, adding that "Michael has always had a lot of time for him."

"Wet tracks have been interrupting his preparation and we are not sure he really handled that soft going today but he needed to run."

"It was a good tough win and whilst it may not be this campaign he will be lining up in some handy races one day."

Noting that Lord Disick has matured drastically since his last campaign, Hewetson said that the four-year-old on occasions had been a little hot.

"The change in him has been quite phenomenal!" he enthused.

Riding Lord Disick for the fourth time, Christian Reith was apologetic that he had cost the horse a win at his previous start at Canterbury - "I just had him too far back there so today I wanted to be more positive."

"He was wide but he is a horse who likes to bowl along and I knew he'd be tough at the finish. He is still learning, he still does a bit wrong but it is slowly clicking with him and I was always confident."

Raced by a big group headed by R & C Legh Racing, Lord Disick is bred to keep improving. Not only is he by the great stamina source in Pentire, he hails from a family known for its Classic type performers - his dam Breeze Hill by the great Danehill being a half-sister to the Group One gallopers Dr Devious (Epsom Derby) and Shinko King.

Lord Disick's grandam Rose Of Jericho was a prolific producer, her other descendants including the big race winners Dancing Rain (German Oaks), Maybe and Suzuka Phoenix.
