Mister Impatience Tackles NZ Cup

Making his second race day appearance in New Zealand, the Queensland Cup winner Mister Impatience (pictured) will look to make his presence felt in Saturday’s Group 3 New Zealand Cup over 3200m at Riccarton.

Senior jockey Michael Coleman has been engaged for the ride and while the forecast predicts showers leading up to Saturday are a plus, the visitors’ barrier makes things a little tricky for the son of Hernando.

“If the track comes back to a Dead5 or 6 we think that will only increase his chances,” co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

“The wide draw isn’t ideal, but it can sometimes work in your favour in those big fields.”

Mister Impatience had three starts over the 3200m trip, including the Gr.3 Queensland Cup late last season, and if there is one thing sure about him – he can stay.

“The first four runners in the betting have yet to start over 3200m, so there is always a question mark on those horses. We know our horse can see the trip out and at a competitive level.” Ormsby said.

Back up north the team will have two representatives line up at Tauranga, including last start winner Soul Sista who has thrived since her last outing and again looks a strong chance in Rating 65 company again.

“She’s come on in leaps and bounds this preparation and we couldn’t be happier with her.” Ormsby said.

“While the wide draw isn’t ideal, the track will be to her liking and the step up in distance (1600m) is really going to play in her favour.”

Soul Sista will be ridden by inform jockey Sam Spratt and contests the Rating 65 event over 1600m.

The second of our two runners at Tauranga will be Flavigny who was ripe and ready to go a big race at Te Rapa before failing to jump out of the stalls.

“We are still not quite sure what happened there, but she trialed on Monday and was perfect so we are confident that a repeat of last start won’t be happening.”

“She is another who has come on extremely well this time in and if she can win this weekend, and bounce through well, we may consider running in the Breeders Stakes next weekend if she can make the field.”
