Tivaci Impresses

Everyone at Ballymore is very excited about our three-year-olds this spring - our lovely filly Alaskan Rose a leading 1000 Guineas contender whilst we have several promising males emerging.

Including Tivaci who could not have been more impressive racing away to a 2 1/4 length debut victory at Echuca on Saturday.

Always well regarded by the stable, the good looking bay quickly put ground on his rivals and Michael Moroney is keen to test him in the best of company.

"We hopefully can get a run in the Guineas Prelude," he said.

"That is our preferred race but we will enter him at Pakenham a few days previously just in case he doesn't get a run."

"He is a lovely horse who looks to have a real future. Not many High Chaparrals can win like that over 1200m."

A $250,000 Easter yearling who caught the eye of Paul Moroney, Tivaci was fittingly bred by Bart Cummings.

He is the first foal produced by the city placed two times winning Fastnet Rock mare Breccia, a daughter of the Perth Cup winner Luna Tudor who also produced the Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder and the Gr.3 winner Pretty Pins.

The stable has runners in two states on Tuesday with The Bunsta our sole NSW runner - due to take his place in a 2000m Class 1 event at Kembla Grange.

"He was slightly disappointing last start," Moroney conceded, "but the track was on the firm side that day and this time he should get his preferred rain affected going."

Meanwhile at Pakenham we have two runners in the opening event - Sapphira and Wichita Woman.

Unplaced at her Bendigo debut, Sapphira was expected to fare much better.

"She was disappointing as she is a filly we have always had time for," said Moroney.

"But she has been working well since and we expect big improvement from her."

Wichita Woman debuts in the same race, the daughter of High Chaparral likely to be better the further she gets.

"We are going to throw her into the deep end a bit as she is shaping as an Oaks filly," Moroney said.

"She may still be better in the autumn but she has been improving and has shown good signs - so we will give her a chance to get there."
