Brazilian Pulse too strong in Sydney

TRAINER Mike Moroney admitted star filly Brazilian Pulse was there to be beaten at Rosehill yesterday.

"It was Brazilian Pulse's first go the Sydney way, she was stepping up in distance to 1800m for a race that we did not have originally on her program, she had to concede the other fillies 4kg and she did get pushed wide on the turn," he said.

"I suppose there was that opportunity for her to run off the track on the turn but the one thing about her is she is a real racehorse, she is a top quality filly and her class shone through."

The outstanding Brazilian Pulse had no problems adapting to the Sydney way of going when she scored a comfortable win in the Group III $150,000 Keith Nolan Classic (1800m) at Rosehill.

Brazilian Pulse was confidently backed from $1.85 in to $1.65 favouritism and always seemed in control of the race before scoring by a half-length from the eye-catching Fibrillation ($16), with Honor Net ($17) a length away third.

Moroney had planned to run Brazilian Pulse against the older horses in the Ajax Stakes (1500m) yesterday but when the Kembla Grange meeting was abandoned due to wet weather, the trainer decided to enter her for the Keith Nolan Classic when that race was added to the Rosehill program and increased in distance from 1500m to 1800m.

Brazilian Pulse won the VRC Oaks last spring and it is expected she would be given the opportunity to complete the classic double in the $550,000 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 16.

But Moroney said he hasn't locked in Brazilian Pulse's autumn program and confirmed the $2 million Doncaster Mile (1600m), run the same day as the Oaks, was still a possibility.

"We will go to the (Group I $400,000) Vinery Stud Stakes over the 2000m here next Saturday and then sit down with the owners and decide whether it is the Oaks or the Doncaster," he said.

"She will only have the three runs in Sydney. She is very intelligent, has good gate speed and great race sense, and is competitive over any distance, so it's a good position to be in."
