All Roads Lead to the Derby for this Stunning Individual

Last year Mike and the team left New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka complex convinced they had potentially seen the best first season sire ever represented in Windsor Park’s son of Galileo, Rip Van Winkle. This year was no different.

Our appointed bloodstock selector, Paul Moroney, compiled his final list for the Premier Yearling Sale and Rip Van Winkle was again very well represented among Paul’s top selections. Given Rip Van Winkle was twice crowned European Champion Miler, best of his age at that distance at 3, a triple Gr.1 winner, son of a champion racehorse/sire and grandson of another in Sadler’s Wells, his chances of succeeding at stud have always looked bright, and the quality of his stock have further raised that prospect.

This colt was very high on Paul Moroney’s list of potential classic horses and we are extremely pleased to have secured him.

His dam, Whiffle, is by the very successful sire and broodmare sire, Red Ransom, who is responsible for producing 93 individual stakes winners in the broodmare sire role including Champion NZ Stayer Red Ruler, Gr.1 1000 Guineas winner Roll Out The Carpet, Gr.2 winner Catalonia as well as a further seven individual Gr.1 winners.

Whiffle is also the dam of stakes placed juvenile Kona Breeze, two time winner Hollywood Breeze and recent impressive winner Darcy’s Law (High Chaparral).

You will also find top class racehorses in his pedigree such as the Ballymore trained Gr.1 winner Mission Critical, Gr.2 winner Brilliant Light and Champion British Stayer Nedawi.

THE RIP VAN WINKLE X WHIFFLE COLT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE BECAUSE:

- He is by one of the most exciting young sires in Australasia in RIP VAN WINKLE who has already celebrated Gr.1 success in Europe as a sire, while his southern hemisphere progeny are beginning to fire.

- Ballymore’s appointed Bloodstock Agent, Paul Moroney, has purchased an incredible 12 individual Gr.1 winning classic horses i.e. Derbies, Oaks and Guineas - a proven and unmatched record in selecting classic prospects.

- The Galileo/Red Ransom cross has been very successful boasting two stakes winners and six winners from only seven to hit the races.

BALLYMORE STABLES IS THE RIGHT STABLE BECAUSE:

- Michael Moroney is one of the most successful trainers in Australasia boasting 48 individual Group 1 winners to his name, over 200 Group and Listed winners, over 2000 winners and accumulated over 30 million in prize money.

- Co-trainer Chad Ormsby is one of the most skilled horseman in the country and reports exactly how your horse is feeling from the hot seat. Chad has also celebrated good success during his short time in training which includes Gr.2 winner GRAPHIC, Gr.3 winner SURPASS, Listed winner MAE JINX Listed winner Savvy Dancer and Gr.1 placed LE CHOIX.

- The team at Ballymore ensure your racing experience is a close and personal one by providing many forms of communication including video, audio, verbal and written reports

“The Whiffle colt is an imposing type from a top international staying family going back to the great race mare DAHLIA. I have already selected a G1 winner from this family - Whakanui International Stakes winner Mission Critical which won that race at 3.”

Paul Moroney - Purchaser of 33 individual Gr.1 winners to date

“He’s a quality, athletic and smooth moving individul that possesses a lovely attitude towards his work. The family have shown they can run and I’ll back this colt all the way.”

Chad Ormsby - Ballymore Stables, NZ Co-Trainer and former leading jockey
