Lord Disick impresses

Purchased after catching Paul Moroney's eye winning a trial in New Zealand, Lord Disick is a horse who has always impressed and he put on display his stellar turn of foot with a big win at Warrnambool on Tuesday.

Getting back off a tardy start, the lightly raced and exciting three-year-old travelled well and after joining in at the 200m was dominant - racing away to salute by a soft 4 3/4 lengths.

A son of Pentire appreciating a rise in distance at just his second run this time in, Lord Disick is described by Michael Moroney as "a very nice stayer in the making."

"He really does look a great prospect for the future," he enthused, noting that "he comes from a great family whose members just get better and better as they mature."

Raced by a large and happy group led by R & C Legh Racing, Lord Disick is out of the winning Danehill mare Breeze Hill. Also dam of the smart Hong Kong galloper Vitality Express, she is a half-sister to four stakes winners including the Epsom Derby hero Dr Devious, the Japanese Group One winner Shinko King and the successful stallion Archway.

Local stars Pierro also hails from this family as do fellow Group One winners Laverock, Markofinstinction, Suzuka Phoenix and Maybe.

Hopefully our winning run continues this week, kicking off with the promising juvenile Misty Waters in the Swettenham Stud Sprint at Sandown on Wednesday.

"She has trained on well since her debut win," Moroney said, noting that "she
is not a filly we do a lot with. She is not a robust type but she has natural talent and with her good gate speed she should again prove hard to beat."

Lining up in the fifth event, Space is a horse hard to be confident about - the five-year-old disappointing in the Stony Creek Cup last time out.

"He is coming off a shocking run. He is a horse who takes racing but he does need to improve."

Stepping up in class in the William Hill Handicap, Rising Stock has pleased us with his progress since a slightly disappointing fifth at Cranbourne following a strong Warrnambool maiden victory.

"He just wasn't happy on a tight turning track," Moroney said, noting that his best runs have been on bigger courses.

"This is a stronger race than those he has been contesting but we do think that Sandown will suit him."

We also have two horses - Simply Explosive and Sun Holiday - in the 1600m Maiden Plate at Bendigo on Thursday but we are still tossing up whether to run them after they both drew out wide.
