Lock in another win

Eleven months ago –Jordan Mallyon, 1400m – Shylock’s Daughter in first up winning form.

And she has done it again, the tough and consistent mare kicking off her latest campaign with a stylish victory at Ballarat on Thursday.

Always travelling well behind the pace, the six-year-old took a short cut closer to the rails as the field panned into the straight and from thereon was always travelling like the winner.

Skipping clear half way down the straight and holding her rivals at bay, Shylock’s Daughter won by just short of a length – her success the fifth of her 26 start career.

A multiple city winner who has amassed over $110,000, Shylock’s Daughter is a favourite of apprentice Jordan Mallyon’s – “I’ve had a good association with her,” he said.

“She is a real fighter,” he continued, “she just loves winning. She always puts herself into the race and she is always somewhere about at the finish.”

Mallyon noted that Shylock’s Daughter is an improved mare this preparation – “she has been known to get a bit fizzy in the past,” he said, “’but she settled beautifully today – and she will get better over more ground.”

Bred by Gerald Bell, Paul Moroney & CF Plum Ridge and raced by Zlate Angelovski, Robert Baker, Gerald Bell, G Delmastro, Leo Marin, Max Massella, Paul McConnell, Mario Ragusa, Sylvia Sherlock and Michael Taliano, Shylock’s Daughter is a daughter of the Epsom & Irish Derby hero Generous.

Her dam is the winning Star Way mare Solar Shower, a half sister to the durable stakes winner Murphy. Solar Shower's grandam is the Gr.3 winner Hawaiian Rain, also grandam of the dual stakes winner My Halo Broke.
