Massale come back right on track

The patient connections of talented galloper, Massale (pictured), who sensationally fell in this year’s Karaka Million, badly injuring his knee, are enjoying what is looking like an incredible come back for the son of Shaft following a strong second at Avondale on Saturday.

Flying the gates in the last on the card on Counties Cup day, Massale was keen to get on with business and led the field in the straight with jockey Mark du Plessis in the saddle.

There were several challengers looking to tackle Massale at the 300m mark and the highly regarded Princess Michella was the only who got her head in front on the line.

“Massale showed great fight and determination today, but unfortunately we have run into a smart one on the day,” said co-trainer Chad Ormsby.

“We have yet to see the best of him and it’s really exciting to think what he will be able to do when he gets there.”

Ormsby is very quick to acknowledge all parties involved who have worked so hard to get Massale where he is today, particularly the owners who have stuck with the horse all the way through, and now he looks as though he is on the right track in repaying the favour.
