Jemerica Chases Black-Type

Hot on the heels of a terrific double on Wednesday – Devonshire Duke and Yesterday’s Songs both so impressive – Ballymore is looking forward to the weekend action.

Whilst we are not represented by large numbers, we do not lack in quality with decent chances at both the Caulfield and Rosehill meetings.

Our first runner for the day is game mare Zazparella who lines up in the opening event at Rosehill, the Merrylands RSL Club Handicap over 1900m.

There are not a lot of mares races in Melbourne suitable for the five-year-old but that is not the only reason she has ventured to Sydney.

“We will try and chase some black type for her over the Sydney Autumn carnival,” Michael Moroney said, keen to give the consistent daughter of Al Maher some practice around the clockwise direction.

“It is her first time the right-handed way but she has drawn a gate to help her with that (barrier two). A bit of rain would’ve been nice but she is going really well and she should prove hard to beat.”

To be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy with whom the stable enjoys such a great association, Zazparella has won two races this time in and has not been out of the placings from her last six starts.

Jemerica (pictured) is our Caulfield runner, due to take her place in the fifth event, the Listed Regal Roller Stakes.

Also nominated for the mares race, Jemerica will instead have her first crack at stakes company – Moroney, having been through the form noting that “there is not as much depth as there can be in stakes races and she looks a good chance of picking up some black-type.”

The last start Caulfield winner will jump from barrier six with Chad Schofield aboard.

We also have a runner at the provincial meeting on Saturday, the talented Chobe heading to Donald in search of firmer going.

“He has been working really well and he just needs a decent track,” Moroney said – “and if he gets that he can turn his form around pretty quickly.”
