Slinky Back to Cranbourne

We are looking forward to cheering on Slinky Veeness at Cranbourne on Wednesday, the promising filly back to the scene of her impressive debut victory in late May.

On that occasion a runaway 4¼ length winner, the daughter of Guillotine was a shade disappointing at Sandown next time out but, as Michael Moroney explained “she may just have had enough.”

“But she has freshened up nicely and she has trialled well,” he said.

Drawn nicely in barrier five, Slinky Veeness will again be ridden by Damian Lane.

We have just the two Cranbourne runners, the second being Awesome Goal who caught the eye with a strong late finish at Bendigo second up.

Nicely primed for a distance rise, the four-year-old has drawn in which is, Moroney says, of some concern.

“He has no gate speed so the inside gate probably won’t do him any favours.”

“But the wetter the better for him, he loves it!”

Another quiet day on Thursday with just the one runner – Miz Sinatra – at the Geelong synthetic meeting.

Unlucky of late, the consistent five-year-old has however been close up at recent outings.

“We are having a really chequered run with her,” Moroney said – “abandoned meetings and ballots – it has been frustrating.”

“But she is going well and we are expecting her usual honest effort.”
