Quiet weekend but hopefully a winning one

Just the two runners for the stable this weekend, kicking off with Redondo Beach in the Gliderol Handicap at Morphettville on Saturday.

To be ridden by Clare Lindop back from a stint in the United Kingdom, Redondo Beach ran a handy fourth at his third run in - his best effort this preparation.

"It was a much improved run," said Michael Moroney, "and we expect him to be pretty close to the mark for this race."

A four times winner from 1700m to 2500m, Redondo Beach is a half brother to the W.S Cox Plate winner El Segundo who kicks off his spring campaign in the Aurie's Star at Flemington on Saturday.

Mark Zahra takes the ride on our other weekend runner, Sophrosyne in the opening event at Cranbourne on Sunday.

Having only his third start, the son of Testa Rossa was only just beaten at Benalla last time out and he has his hoof firmly on the till.

"The 1400m should be ideal for him," said Moroney, adding that the stable have always had a good opinion of the gelding - "he is one we really like," he said, "he has a decent future."

The stables are gearing up for a big spring with three carnival contenders back in work this week - Glistening, Mission Critical and Syndrome.
