Jumping debut for Lordoftheparrots

Talented stayer Lordoftheparrots embarks on his new career at Warrmambool on Tuesday – the seven-year-old due to make his hurdling debut in the famous carnival’s opening event.

Whilst he has struck what looks to be a pretty strong Maiden Hurdle with the Gai Waterhouse trained Tenby Lady particularly well regarded, Lordoftheparrots has been shaping well in preparation.

“He has had two trials,” Michael Moroney reported.

“We gave him a bit of a look around at his first one but put more pressure on him next time and he ran second and jumped nicely.”

“So long as he jumps safely he should run well.”

To be ridden by Kosuke Kawakami, the Stawell & Wangaratta Cup winner has drawn barrier four in the 3200m event.

Picture Editor is our other Warrnambool carnival runner and we are looking forward to seeing how he performs in a race we won seven years ago with subsequent two times Group One winner Sarrera – the $200,000 Listed Warrnambool Cup.

To be ridden by Darren Gauci, the six-year-old import won his only start at the track and the prospect of rain will enhance his prospects.

Gaining a good foundation with jump-outs prior to his two runs this campaign, Picture Editor may be lightly raced going into the Warrnambool Cup but Moroney is confident that he is up to the mark.

“We have done enough with him and we know he stays the trip. If the forecast is right and the rain comes it will make it interesting as a few of the best chances on paper don’t have much wet track form.”

In the middle of our two Warrnambool days we saddle up a couple of runners at the Canterbury Park meeting on Wednesday – Music Of Life and Postnthyme.

To jump from the outside gate of six for Christian Reith in the 1250m Early Quaddie Plate, Music Of Life looks ready to break through.

“She will be fitter for her last two runs,” Moroney said, adding that “we may have been a big light on her between those outings as she didn’t eat all that well after her last start.”

“But she is going well now and a win would be of no surprise as she does have a fair amount of ability.”

As does Postnthyme who lines up in the Wanderers Handicap with the in-form James McDonald aboard.

A two times winner from her first five starts in New Zealand, the daughter of Pins was a game Kensington second over 1800m a couple of weeks ago and has progressed nicely.

“If she is as good as we think she is she should prove very hard to beat,” said Moroney who describes Postnthyme as “our leading Queensland Oaks contender.”

“The only little question mark is the tight track,” he continued, noting that the prospect of a dry track suits – “the firmer the better for her.”
