Weekend Double

It has been a good week for Ballymore Stables and we added another two winners to the tally on the weekend – Jemerica saluting in easy fashion at Cranbourne on Friday night and Saint Or Sinner bolting in at Morphettville on Saturday.

Sent out favourite in a 1000m contest at Cranbourne, Jemerica travelled nicely off the pace for Damian Lane and, after hooking widest at the turn really motored home.

Quickly gathering in her rivals before racing away to win by a length with plenty in hand, the lightly raced and promising filly recorded the second victory of her five start career.

“She settled nicely,” Lane said, “and when I let her rip she really let them go and rounded them up.”

“She really puts her head down and stretches out,” he noted – adding that her winning margin may have been all the bigger if not for her greenness.

“When she got to the front she got a bit lost,” he said, “but it is onwards and upwards from here.”

Winning with her ears pricked, Jemerica is a filly with a bright future – always well regarded by the stable.

And, being a well related daughter of Captain Rio, she has considerable broodmare potential – and her value increased all the more on Saturday when her close relation Tiger Tees won the Group One Galaxy at Rosehill.

Congratulations to Jemerica’s owners led by her breeders Watson Bloodstock.

And also to the owners – R & C Legh Racing, Gurners Bloodstock, GG Ltd, Barry Broomhead, Barry and Deidre Neville-White, Glenn Mews, Harold Hansen, Noel & Judy Griffin and Ballymore Stables – of Saint Or Sinner who looked so good in Adelaide on Saturday.

Having been cast an emergency at Moonee Valley, Saint Or Sinner instead headed to Morphettville where a suitable 1600m event was run.

And he looked the winner a long way out, travelling sweetly for Dom Tourneur behind the leaders and charging home over the final stages to win by 1¾ length.

That was the fourth win in a row for the son of St Reims who now has black type in sight with a crack at the Group Three Easter Cup at Caulfield on the cards.

We trained Saint Or Sinner’s Group One winning dam It’s My Sin and her terrific daughter Divine Rebel.

It was a good day for mares purchased by Paul Moroney and trained by Ballymore – the two times winner and Stakes placed She’s Golden Class dam of the Epona Stakes winner Intimate Moment (half to Stakes winner Bonnie Mac) and Monroe Magic, dam of O'Marilyn, winner of the Group One Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes in New Zealand. Monroe Magic has also produced Group One winners Anacheeva and Head Turner. Head Turner being another Paul Moroney purchase.
