Flashy Fella's Ararat Cup

A couple of gear changes saw the talented Flashy Fella back to his best – the handsome chestnut strong to the line when taking out Sunday’s Ararat Cup.

Disappointing at his first few runs this campaign, the five-year-old had been over-racing but a combination of the addition of a tongue tie and the removal of blinkers saw him settle much better.

Enjoying a good run on the rails behind the pace, Flashy Fella travelled well throughout for Damian Lane although did look in trouble before the turn – held up for a run.

Finding further trouble with 200m to go, Flashy Fella was squeezed when trying to make a run but the interference seemed to make him all the more determined and over the final stages he was able to draw clear to win by a length.

“He fired up a bit with the blinkers last time,” Lane note, adding that “it was good to see him switch off and hit the line today.”

“He has got a lot more class than he has been showing in his recent runs so it is good to get him back on track.”

Stable representative Greg Hoysted agreed – “we thought he might not have come up this time in but today he proved that with the right sort of run he’s still got it.”

“On his day he is a very good horse.”

The winner of over $217,000 in stakes, Flashy Fella (who hails from the same family as Ballymore’s Gr.1 winner Pernod and her exciting son Marwood) displayed great potential at three finishing runner-up in both the Gr.2 Autumn Classic and the Gr.2 Western Australian Derby.
