Moonee Valley & Kilmore

Ballymore heads to Moonee Valley with two runners on Saturday - Picture Editor and Noble Park taking their places in consecutive races.

First out for us is Picture Editor who steps up to 2500m in the DPOS Displays BM96 Handicap, the fifth event of the day.

Close up at recent outings over 2000m and 2100m, the imported Dansili gelding just missed a placing at Flemington last time out - not having the best of luck there.

"He was not in the right part of the track," Michael Moroney explained, "but once he got into better going he ran on nicely - suggesting that he does want to go further."

"He has had two starts at Moonee Valley," he continued - "one an ordinary run but the other a good one and he is fit and well."

As is Noble Park who contests the following race, the Boscastle Handicap over 1600m.

A horse who has battled with problems in the past, Noble Park has had a trouble free preparation but has been safely held at both runs - not happy on rain affected tracks.

"Both times his riders have told us that he just hasn't handled it," Moroney said, keen to see the Pins gelding back to a dead to slow surface at the Valley.

"He does like some sting out," he said, adding that the gelding has been "holding his condition well" - something he has not always done in the past.

"We are happy with him overall," said Moroney - "he just needs to come back into form."

The stable has a busier day at Kilmore on Sunday with five runners kicking off with Malan in the opening event, the Sportingbet Maiden Plate.

A game runner-up at his past two starts, the Not A Single Doubt four-year-old has not always had the best of luck with barrier draws but from barrier six this time looks well placed to break through.

"He deserves to win one," Moroney said, adding that he "shows the sort of ability that suggests he should not still be a maiden."

In the following race, the Eliza Park International Maiden Plate, well-related three-year-old Marwood makes his debut.

A son of O'Reilly and the terrific Ballymore trained Group One winner Pernod, Marwood is showing potential.

"He is a really nice horse," Moroney enthused.

"He is still slightly immature but he does have ability."

Donna Marie, who contests the Nestle Maiden Plate, like Malan, is a horse overdue a maiden victory.

"Glen Boss said the step up to 2100m last time out was a bit much for her," Moroney said, "but she has worked well since - in the style of a horse who should not still be a maiden. She should prove hard to beat."

About Square (pictured), who runs in the The Good Guys Showcase BM70 Handicap, has struck a handy field, but the four-year-old has run nicely at his last couple at Flemington and he appears well placed.

"It's a handy field btu he is going really well."

Point Made, racing in the Katz Entertainment 0-64 Handicap, is our final runner for the weekend and whilst he has his share of weight - 60kg - he also looks nicely placed.

"It is not a really strong race," said Moroney, noting that the Aussie Rules gelding has been in the placings at both of his 1600m runs to date.
