Geelong & Sandown midweek

Horsham Monday was a non-event for the stable with our four runners having to make the length return trip without a run - but we are hopeful that we have a bit more luck in the next couple of days.

At Geelong on Tuesday we saddle up three nice horses, kicking off with Tempest Rock (pictured) in the opening event, a 1300m maiden.

Disappointing of late - out of the placings at his last three outings, the son of Rock Of Gibraltar has let us down a bit as we have always expected more of him.

"We have persevered as he is a horse we have always had a bit of time for," Michael Moroney explained.

"We haven't been able to find a reason for his poor form but we have made a few gear changes and hopefully he can turn it all around."

Malanco also contests a 1300m maiden, the fourth race of the day.

The well related daughter of Danzero is having only her second start and her first since late last year - having had no luck at debut, striking interference.

"She went well enough that day," Moroney said, noting that the filly "will improve as she gets over a bit of ground. In saying that, it does look a weak field."

Import Monte Carlo lines up in the following race, a 0-62 Handicap over 2000m.

Running on nicely when resuming over a mile, the Montjeu five-year-old has come up well for his second Australian campaign.

"He looks to have improved a lot as many of the European horses do in their second local campaign," said Moroney, "and providing he gets over his long trip to and from Horsham on Monday he should prove hard to beat."

On Wednesday we head to Sandown, again with three runners - the first of those being Crimson Lady in the third race, the Schweppes Handicap.

Costing herself dearly by laying in badly over the final stages when sixth at Flemington last time out, the four-year-old will appreciate a drop in class.

"Michael Walker got off last start and said she would've won if she'd gone straight, hopefully a couple of gear changes will sort her out."

Oneman Wolfpack tackles the following race, the Swettenham Stud Handicap and on the back of a strong last start victory at Geelong should again prove "hard to beat."

"He has trained on really well since breaking the track record last start and he is a much improved stayer."

Girls On Film is the last of our three Sandown runners and we are hoping for a scratching to get her into the field.

"She is a mare we have always liked," Moroney said, "and being drawn out might be the place to be at the end of the day if the rain keeps coming."

A smart last start Bendigo winner, Girls On Film has drawn gate 18 and Glen Boss jumps aboard.
