La Zuma to Zoom?

Ballymore has a busy Saturday ahead, our staff heading all over the place with runners at Caulfield, Morphettville, Eagle Farm and Cranbourne.

Our quietest day is in Melbourne where we take just the one runner - Red Eye Special due to contest the Peter Street Handicap.

Whilst he has the services of in-form apprentice Tom Sadler and the advantage of a rise in distance, the six-year-old still has the job ahead says Michael Moroney.

"He badly wants rain," he rued, "and from the tough draw (barrier ten) he will need a lot of luck."

Moroney is also hoping for some showers in Adelaide where several of our five runners race best with the sting out.

Our Morphettville action starts early in the day with two runners - La Zuma (pictured) and Yantar - in the SA Fillies Classic (Oaks) over 2500m.

One of the favourites for the Group 3 feature, La Zuma really caught the eye with a strong late finish in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and the step up to 2500m looks ideal for the daughter of Zabeel.

"She has trained on very well," Moroney enthhused, "and she has finally drawn a good gate (two)."

Going out at bigger odds will be Yantar who finished down the track in the Oaks but Moroney is confident of an improved showing from the Dushyantor.

"She was a victim of the abandoned Cranbourne night meeting which just put her a run behind," he said.

"Subsequently she raced a bit fresh last time and she was inclined to overrace. Hopefully she will race more truly on Saturday and on her best form she is a chance."

Muirfield - who contests the Group 3 Queen's Cup - is a horse who would definitely benefit from some rain but his outside barrier draw (12) is of concern for Moroney.

"He ran a great race from a good gate in the Warrnambool Cup but from out there he will probably need to go back. So he will need a bit of luck - but if it happened to rain in time he'd be hard to beat."

Tough and classy campaigner Wall Street has drawn nicely in barrier five in the Gr 3 R A Lee Stakes and his form at the mile is hard to fault.

Missing a week's work with foot issues, the multiple Group One winner has bounced back well and a forward showing is expected.

"He is in very well at the weights and last time that happened he should've won," he said - referring to Wall Street's unlucky Blamey Stakes third in early March.

Bonnie Mac is the last of our Adelaide runners, lining up in the Listed Proud Miss Stakes - a race she won last year by 1½ lengths.

"She looks to be a very good chance again and hopefully by the last race some rain will have come."

"She ran a nice race last time out," Moroney noted, adding that the still lightly raced mare showed a bit of previously lacking confidence.

"She knocked another horse out of the way at Caulfield whereas in the past she has been quite field shy."

Shenzhou Steeds, who is yet to taste defeat in Queensland where he has always raced at his best, heads to Eagle Farm on Saturday - second up in the Group 3 Chairman's Handicap.

A mysterious last when resuming in the Doncaster Prelude in Sydney, the five-year-old had us "scratching our heads" with that failure but he is in fine shape.

"He has trialled well since that run and we can't fault him."

Palmerston North - a horse Moroney often mistakingly calls Monaco Consul "because he looks so much like him!" - is our other Saturday runner, contesting a 1500m maiden at Cranbourne.

Whilst he is yet to show a great deal in three starts, an improved showing is expected.

"His work has improved heaps since we added the blinkers," Moroney said - "and whilst he has a tricky gate (13) he could prove hard to beat should he run up to his work."
