Oneman Wolfpack kicks off busy weekend

A horse who has always shown ability - but who has had to overcome his fair share of problems - Oneman Wolfpack was impressive recording an easy victory over 2000m at Geelong on Friday.

Stepping up to that trip for the first time this preparation, the sparingly raced five-year-old settled nicely for Darren Gauci - sitting just off the leader.

Hitting the front at the 220m, the son of Iglesia really let go over the final stages - proving 2¼ too strong for his rivals in track record time.

"I was travelling well throughout," reported Gauci who was impressed that Oneman Wolfpack was able to find at the end of a strongly run race.

"He was able to sustain his speed off a good tempo and when I asked him to go he kicked pretty quickly."

Described by Michael Moroney as "a horse who has always looked pretty smart," Oneman Wolfpack has leg and other issues but the stable is hopeful that he is now ready to reach his full potential for his patient owners Michael Krauser, Manfred Krauser, Jordon Mason, Caroline Grainger, Adam Williams, Simon Rutz, Dean Higgins, Peter Anastasiou, Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd (manager Michael Moroney) and Lorne Bloodstock Pty Ltd (manager Rohan Aujard).

We are hopeful also that the stable's good form continues on Saturday as we attack four different race meetings with four very nice horses.

At Morphettville we saddle up two runners in the day's feature, the Group One Australasian Oaks - Yantar and La Zuma. Whilst both have drawn out, each look to be decent chances to snare valuable black type.

"Yantar is coming off two nice wins," said Moroney, "and whilst it is obviously a rise in class she is going the right way and she should prove competitive."

"La Zuma really needed the run last start," he continued - pointing to the Zabeel filly's Auraria Stakes tenth at her first run since early March - "and we are expecting her to improve out of sight."

"She has trained on very well and it would be no surprise to see her in the thick of things."

Bonnie Mac racing in the final event at Caulfield is another mare who we expect to see an improved performance from.

"She has the blinkers on and we have always thought she might need them," Moroney said.

"She had a jump-out with them on and went really well. This looks a nice race for her and she can go a fair way better this time."

Over to Sydney we will be cheering on two black type runners - Sherbet Bomb and Glass Harmonium.

Having only her fourth start, Sherbert Bomb takes on some smart fillies in the Listed James Carr Stakes but we are hoping she can measure up.

"This will be her last run this campaign," Moroney said, "and we are taking a bit of a throw at the stumps hoping she can get some black type."

"She will be a better horse next time in but she has travelled up well and she does have a fair amount of ability."

Glass Harmonium pulled up well from his unplaced Doncaster Handicap run, Moroney rueing the entire's lack of fortune in that race.

"Early interference put him out of the race and of course he runs his best races when he is right there on the pace."

Ideally drawin in barrier one in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Glass Harmonium is on the back-up and he has raced well that way in the past - only just getting beaten in the Mackinnon Stakes a week after finishing down the track in the W.S Cox Plate.
