Revelator relishes Avondale

Once a son of Zabeel gets up to a bit of distance there is no stopping them and such was the case with up-and-comer Revelator who toyed with his rivals at Avondale on Anzac Day.

Having only his second start over 2100m, the lightly raced four-year-old did a good job to salute having not raced for a month with his lead up run being an encouraging third over the same trip at Matamata in late February.

On Thursday always travelling well behind the leaders on the rails, Revelator was well handled by Leith Innes who hooked him out into the clear at the top of the straight.

Full of running, Revelator hit the lead early – with 300m to go getting clear and racing further and further in front, his winning margin a soft and impressive 7½ lengths.

Recording the third victory of his 12 start career, Revelator won for his owners a lovely trophy – Dame Sian Elias and Hugh Fletcher pictured with the spoils for winning the Governor General’s Cup.

Bred by the Fletchers, Revelator is one of four winners from as many to race for the unraced Last Tycoon mare Labyrinth.

Also dam of the Ballymore winners Calypso and Let It Ride, Labyrinth is a half-sister to the Gr.3 Newcastle Gold Cup winner Stratofortress from the family of the Group One winners The A Train and Calm Harbour.
