Three city chances this weekend

Our weekend kicks off at Moonee Valley tonight with the promising filly Spitfire Lady resuming in the opening event, a 1000m contest for three-year-olds.

Having her first run since contesting the Edward Manifold Stakes last spring, the well related daughter of Hussonet (a half sister to her classy stablemate Sabrage) looks nicely suited fresh.

"She is a really nice filly," Michael Moroney enthused, "and from a nice gate she should prove hard to beat."

We head to Flemington on Saturday with two nice chances kicking off with the handsome Flashy Fella (pictured) in the second event, the Jeune Handicap over 2000m.

"He was a bit disappointing last start," Moroney said of the four-year-old who started favourite at Caulfield, finishing fourth.

"We are just hoping that it was just a little lack of fitness and the way the race was won. He can improve as he is going well."

Bonnie Mac is also in good shape and the quality mare should give the fourth race, the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes, a shake.

"We have been really happy with her and this looks like the right race."

"There has been a bit of rain about which helps her and the step up to 1400m is ideal."
