Ararat Double

Ballymore kicked off the week in good fashion with a winning double at the Ararat meeting on Monday.

The first of our pair of winners was the lightly raced import Yantar who was appreciative of a rise in distance.

Having only her fourth start, the promising American bred filly enjoyed a good run behind the leaders on the rails - having to show good heart when held up early in the straight.

Gaining a split at the 150m, Yantar quickly took it before racing away to a soft 1 1/4 length victory.

A filly who has displayed genuine improvement at each outing, the Emirates Park home-bred looks to have a bright future over distance.

Which is what she is bred for - being a daughter of the Sadler's Wells stallion Dushyantor, a three times Group winning half-brother to the Epsom Derby hero Commander-In-Chief.

Hailing from a strong South American family, Yantar is a full sister to the Group 3 winner Dulcinea and a half-sister to the Listed winner Galanteada.

Our second Ararat winner Surface Tension also showed plenty of heart, chasing the favourite throughout and running that horse down after it kicked before the turn.

Stepping up to 2000m third up from a spell, the son of Galileo is also an import - Ballymore continuing to do well with Northern hemisphere bred horses.

Purchased by Paul Moroney for 28,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale, Surface Tension is raced by the Brew 1, Brew 2, Pulse, Jacks, Vincitori, Quantum and H H Syndicates.
