Deja vu for Mae Jinx?

Speedy mare Mae Jinx returns to proven ground on Saturday, the recent stakes winner back to the track and trip where she recorded her career highlight victory in the Listed Berkley Stud (Eclipse Stakes) on Boxing Day.

Failing to run out the 1400m at Riccarton last week, the six-year-old has bounced back quickly from the run and we look forward to seeing her return to form back at the 1200m.

"It is her favourite trip," Chad Ormsby said, "back to the same track - Wingatui. And she has drawn barrier one which is ideal for her being the jump and run mare she is."

A six times winner from 27 starts, Mae Jinx certainly loves the 1200m - four of her victories coming at that sprinting journey.

We also take two runners to the Te Rapa meeting on Saturday, kicking off with the promising Calypso in the third event over 1200m.

"Her last run was a brave one," said Ormsby, adding that whilst the daughter of Pentire is rising in class, she is lightly raced with plenty of upside."

"The 1200m looks a good trip for her," he added, "and she looks a chance from a good draw."

Juvenile Fairy Cake contests the following race and she too has drawn nicely in barrier 2.

"Her last run was encouraging," Ormsby reported, "and she should be finishing off strongly late.
