Flashy Fella kicks off at Caulfield

Promising four-year-old Flashy Fella resumes at Caulfield on Saturday, the son of Thorn Park due to have his first run since finishing a gallant second to Rohan in the Western Australian Derby in April.

A horse always well regarded by the stable, the good-looking chestnut had won at Caulfield his start before heading to Perth and before that was a game second in the Gr.3 Autumn Classic at the same track.

Given time to mature, Flashy Fella has returned to the stables in great order and has pleased us with his work.

"He has gone really well in his jump-outs," Michael Moroney enthused, "and he looks great."

"He is still a bit on the burly side, but going on what he has been showing he should run a forward race."

Whilst yet to win fresh, Flashy Fella has not been far away at any of his first up runs - in fact he is usually close up at all of his runs!

Alotted equal top weight of 60kg in the fifth heat of the Swettenham Stud Summer Championship, Flashy Fella will be ridden by Alex Forbes who claims 3kg.

Jake Noonan meanwhile rides our other Caulfield runner Mrs Hadlee who certainly deserves a city win on the back of her consistent form.

"She is a really honest filly," Moroney said of the last start Caulfield runner up who contests the opening event, the Thomas North Handicap.

"She went down only narrowly last start and she strikes a similar field. The winner Maglissa looks pretty smart but we get a kilo off her from that meeting."

Mrs Hadlee, is Moroney added, a filly "who makes her own luck" - "and she has been knocking on the door."

Macpherson is another runner for us on Saturday, the lightly raced three-year-old lining up in the fillies maiden at Pakenham.

"She is not an easy horse to train," Moroney said of the daughter of Strada, "but she does have ability."

"She is bred for sprinting but she is looking like she wants a bit more ground so the 1300m should suit at this stage."

Stepping back a day and we also have a couple of runners at the Cranbourne Friday night meeting - Denison and Chilean Plume - and both look decent chances.

"Denison was slowly away at debut which was a bit of a surprise," Moroney said, "as he has shown good speed at home. His run was very good though and he should prove hard to beat on that effort."

"We were happy with Chilean Plume's last run too - and he is dropping in class. Plus he is nicely weighted so with luck in running he should prove hard to beat."

Sunday is another busy day for us with runners at the Warrnambool and Kilmore meetings.

Liberated Rose looks a chance to break her maiden at the former, having derived benefit from her first run back from a long spell.

"She got a nasty leg infection but she is a filly we have always liked and we are expecting her to be a big improver with the blinkers on."

Saint Pulse is the first of our Kilmore runners and the honest son of Aussie Rules should perform well as he always does.

"He steps up to the mile quickly," Moroney admitted, "but he has drawn nicely and from that gate (1) he should get a soft run."

Imported galloper Point Made is another good prospect this weekend. Impressive winning at Warrnambool two starts ago he was third at Moonee Valley last time out and will appreciate the drop in grade.

"He just overraced a bit last time but his run was still good and he will be hard to beat on Sunday."
