Sinnfonia makes black type debut

Exciting import Sinnfonia makes her black type debut on Saturday, the Irish bred daughter of champion Sinndar looking a big chance in the Gr.3 Manawatu Cup at Awapuni on Saturday.

Gallant when third stepping up to a trip for the first time at Ellerslie last time out, the lightly raced five-year-old had impressed winning her two previous assignments over 1400m and 1600m.

And we are excited about her staying prospects - the 2300m of the Manawatu Cup bound to suit with Sinnfonia the daughter of a half sister to the Breeders' Cup Turf hero Kalanisi.

"She should run really well," Chad Ormsby enthused - "it is her first attempt in stakes class but she is mare of really good ability."

David Walsh takes the ride on Sinnfonia who has drawn nicely in barrier three.

Earlier in the day at the same meeting we saddle up Upstream Lad and he too looks suited by a step up in distance in the 2300m Harcourts Premier.

Also drawing well - barrier two for Jason Waddell, Upstream Lad looked good breaking his maiden over 2000m at Thames last time out and he has pleased us with his progress.

"He has trained on well," Ormsby said of the well related son of Pentire.

Ballymore also takes two runners to the Te Rapa meeting, kicking off with The Hotz in the opening event.

"He is having his first run over 2100m," said Ormsby, "and he has the blinkers on the first time which will help him. It will be good to see him go close."

Holding a nomination for the New Zealand Derby, The Hotz is bred for ground being a son of Pentire from a stout local family.

Fellow Pentire gelding Xalted - who has been in consistent form of late, is our final runner for the weekend, due to take his place in the Dunstan Feeds Championship Qualifier over 2100m.

"It looks to be a strong race," Ormsby admitted, "but we think he is a strong chance - so long as he gets a bit of luck in running from his tricky draw (17)."

Nominated for the Auckland and Wellington Cups, Xalted is another bred to relish ground - hailing from the family of Caulfield & Melbourne Cup star Ethereal.

Meanwhile we are celebrating the win by Revelator at Matamata on Wednesday - the son of Zabeel impressive at his first start since June.

"It was a special win," Ormsby said, noting that the horse who races in the colours of star Mr Tiz was able to win a race named in that seven times Group One winner's honour!
