Sinnfonia strengthens Sangster/Moroney ties

Tough mare Sinnfonia has proven an astute purchase by Paul Moroney, the imported daughter of Sinndar increasing her value not only with improvements on her pedigree page but with her excellent form since joining the stable.

Racing just once under the care of Sir Henry Cecil in the UK - finishing fifth in a Nottingham maiden, the well related bay was well regarded by Frankel's trainer but was sent to the Tattersalls December Mares Sale having wrenched a joint whilst being prepared for a crack at the 1000 Guineas.

Catching Paul's eye, Sinnfonia looked a good buy for 18,000 guineas and all the more so when, just a couple of months later her half brother Burano won at Listed level in Dubai.

That horse is prepared by Brian Meehan, UK trainer for the Sangster family and the Victorian based Adam Sangster was pleased to take a share - with Mike Moroney - in Sinnfonia.

Offering 5% of the mare in an auction supporting the '4Tracks 4Kids' charity, Moroney and Sangster race Sinnfonia with successful bidder Geoff Tucker.

Breaking her maiden at just her third New Zealand run over 1400m at Te Aroha on October 24, Sinnfonia was stepping up in distance (1600m) and class on Saturday and she won in determined fashion.

Settling well back, she edged closer approaching the turn - swinging wide as the leaders kicked. Gradually she wore them down, putting her nose out on the line.

"It is good to see the Sangster colours in winning form in New Zealand," a very happy Adam Sangster said, adding that it had been some time since his family had enjoyed NZ success - "back to the days of Riverina Charm and Beechcraft," he reminisced.

Adam says it is a special thrill winning races for the Moroney stable - "we go back years with the family," he said, recalling first meeting Paul at Cambridge Stud around three decades ago.

"He came to write a story about me whilst I was working at the stud mucking out Sir Tristram's stall!" he recalled.

Since then, the Moroneys and Sangsters have forged a good relationship - "I have always trusted Paul's judgement," Adam said, adding that he is also in ownership of other Ballymore imports Picture Editor and Point Made.

Hailing from a wonderful international family, Sinnfonia is out of a half sister to the dual Gr.1 winner Kalanisi.
