Sabrage gains Caulfield Cup start

With Southern Speed scratched from the Caulfield Cup to be saved for a crack at next weekend's W.S Cox Plate, our talented four-year-old Sabrage - first emergency in the world's richest 2400m handicap - gains a start.

And we are very pleased about that too!

"He is going really well," Michael Moroney enthused, "and he drops a lot in weight."

To be ridden by Clare Lindop, Sabrage carries bottom weight of 51kg - droppoing 7kg from when he took on weight-for-age company in the Caulfield Stakes last weekend.

Ridden on-pace that day, the good-looking son of Charge Forward did not really appreciate those tactics and from his wide gate on Saturday will go back.

"I really think that is the better way to ride him," said Moroney - "hopefully they will go hard."

Set for the Caulfield Cup, Sabrage boasts excellent form around the trip having run a game third in last year's VRC Derby and second to fellow Caulfield Cup candidate Zabeelionaire in this year's South Australian Derby.

Hopefully we are in for a big Caulfield Cup day with the promising filly Zazparella our other runner.

She lines up in the fourth event, the Listed Ethereal Stakes and we think the 2000m will be right up her alley.

"She is a filly we have always liked," Moroney said, "the only query is that she may be better in the autumn."

"But she is a really nice staying type and Saturday will tell us whether we press onto the Oaks or give her a spell."

Zazparella has the addition of blinkers to her gear this weekend and Corey Brown takes the ride from the inside gate.
