Warrnambool winners

Thursday was a good day for the stable - a trip to Warrnambool well worth while with an early running double.

Making his debut in the opening event, a 1000m maiden, Roman Bath House did everything right before racing away to an impressive 2 1/4 length victory.

"I was a bit worried before the start," confessed jockey Michael Walker who could't believe just how laid back the first starter was.

"I was stressing about how he would begin he was so quiet - but he really jumped out well and put himself into the race."

Sitting outside the leader, Roman Bath House was always travelling well - hitting the lead in the straight before drawing clear.

"That was a really good effort," Walker said, adding that he thinks the good loking bay has the attributes to win in better company over a bit longer.

"He is so relaxed, he settles well and he has a turn of foot."

"He has always shown us ability," said stable representative Grey Hoysted, reiterating Walker's thoughts on the young horse's temperament.

"He is a very quiet horse, nothing worries him."

Raced by Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd and the ARK Syndicate, Roman Bath House is a cleverly named son of dual Group One winning Danehill stallion Holy Roman Emperor (pictured).

A $140,000 Magic Millions graduate, he is the third foal produced by the city winning Bellotto mare Madam Spank, also dam of the New Zealand winner Valtier.

Madam Spank, who did her racing in Adelaide, is a daughter of the imported Flemington winner Tafah – dam of the Singapore Group 2 winner Talinga and the local Listed winner sprinter Dasyura (dam of the metropolitan winners Appertain and Silk Pyjamas).

We didn't have to wait long for our next winner, the following race taken out by the lightly raced and promising filly Mrs Hadlee.

Having only her second run this time in - having been a game fourth first up, the attractive grey sat outside the leader and found plenty when asked for her effort in the run home.

Challenged by two others over the final stages, Mrs Hadlee dug deep, putting her nose out on the line to win in determined fashion.

"She toughed it out really well," said jockey Jason Lyon.

"There was a bit of pressure on her in the first half and again at the turn so it was a good, tough win."

Raced by Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd, ARK Syndicate, Lynn Cole and Christopher Dziedzic, the well named Mrs Hadlee is one of 30 Australian bred foals for the Group One winning Sunday Silence stallion Hat Trick who has sired Gr.1 winners in France and the United States.

A $42,500 Classic Sale purchase for Paul Moroney, Mrs Hadlee is out of the city winning Danewin mare Nesnas who has produced three winners including the metropolitan winner Cantakitwithya.
