Pair of Group One contenders

Ballymore heads to Caulfield Saturday with three very nice horses contesting feature events including two Group One runners.

The first of those is the talented Sabrage (pictured) who takes his place in the $400,000 Group One Caulfield Stakes - a 2000m weight-for-age contest.

Having his fourth run back from a spell, Sabrage won the Norman Robinson Stakes at the same stage of his preparation this time last year - that race run over the same trip at the same track.

Improving at each outing this preparation, Sabrage made the pace at his most recent outing in the JRA Cup - battling on quite well for fifth. We were quite pleased with that performance as Moonee Valley has never been his favourite track.

He is however a two times winner at Caulfield and we are hoping he can run a good race leading up to next week's Caulfield Cup.

"He missed a bit of work," Michael Moroney reported, "so we decided to keep him at the 2000m."

"He loves Caulfield," he added, "and we have hims as well as he can be."

Taking on six others - including favourites Ocean Park and Sincero - in the Caulfield Stakes, Sabrage has drawn barrier three for Kerrin McEvoy.

Proven Group One performer Glass Harmonium impressed many with his game first up fourth in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and he has pleased us with his progress since.

"He has trained on well," said Moroney who hopes that the popular grey will jump cleanly from the outside gate in the $400,000 Group One Toorak Handicap.

"The barrier doesn't really worry me as it is a small field, but we just want him to jump well as he usually ends up in the thick of things when he does."

A horse who has come to hand nicely after a couple of operations for a throat problem, Glass Harmonium - Moroney warns - can not always be as good second up as first up.

However we are still expecting a bold showing and he looks to be on track for a second crack at the W.S Cox Plate.

Red Eye Special is our third and final runner for the day, the six-year-old lining up in the $200,000 Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes.

Whilst a little disappointing at his most recent outing, Red Eye Special strips all the fitter.

"We are really happy with him," Moroney said. "We can't really work out his last run. This is a stronger race but he goes into this one all the better."
