That's The Way to do it!

A horse who has excited the stable from day one, That’s The Way broke his maiden in impressive fashion at Bendigo on Sunday – the lightly raced four-year-old giving his rivals a start in the 1300m maiden and charging down the outside of the track before racing away to win by a soft 1½ lengths.

Still green – having done plenty wrong at his first couple of starts back in May/June, the handsome bay has plenty of upside.

“He is still immature mentally,” said jockey Nick Hall who has been aboard for all three starts to date, “but he might be a serious horse.”

“The fact that he did a bit wrong,” he continued, “only means that he has scope for improvement.”

Hall’s opinion that That’s The Way has “a really quick turn of foot” was confirmed by the stable – Matt Hoysted on-course describing that turn of foot as “devastating.”

“He has always shown a lot of ability,” he added – “but there is still a lot of improvement to come.”

A son of one of Ballymore’s favourite stallion Pentire – also sire of our multiple Gr.1 winning star Xcellent (pictured) – That’s The Way caught Paul Moroney’s eye at the 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale, a bid of $NZ160,000 securing him.

Raced by the GG Syndicate, Gurners Bloodstock Co, Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing, Noel & Judith Griffin, Krauser Racing, Peter Walker, Carl Gasper and the ARK Syndicate, That’s The Way is one of four winners from as many to race for the unraced Entrepreneur mare Kacey. He is a full brother to the Flemington winner Sir Penthouse and his dam is a half-sister to the Gr.3 winner Another Sound, dam of the stakes placed Botero (by Pentire) and Kane Smytzer.

The stable’s winning form continued at Warrnambool on Monday, Saint Or Sinner recording an easy win at debut.

Travelling nicely behind the pace, the well related son of St Reims got the split at the top of the straight, racing to the lead at the 200m and drawing clear over the final stages to win by a comfortable 1½ lengths.

He too is well regarded.

“He is a horse we have always really liked,” Michael Moroney said – “he has got his mum's speed and she was very fast.”

That mare was It's My Sin, a Ballymore trained winner of the Group One Otaki-Maori Stakes. She is also dam of Divine Rebel (pictured) who we also trained to a Group Two win in the AJC Chairman's Handicap.

A mare who produced a Fastnet Rock filly last spring, Divine Rebel was also twice runner up in the Group One Sydney Cup.

Congratulations to Saint Or Sinner’s owners Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing, Gurners Bloodstock, GG Ltd, Barry Broomhead Barry & Deidre Neville-White, Glenn Mews, Harold Hansen, Noel Griffin and Ark Racing.

We still have two nice runners to come at Warrnambool today – Bigragtrader and Machine Age so stay tuned!
