Cranbourne Trio

We have runners in three consecutive races at this evening's Cranbourne meeting; all at double figure odds but all nice, lightly raced horses who we look forward to seeing stepping out.

We kick off in the third race, a 1600m maiden, with the four-year-old Comancheria who jumps from barrier 2 with Declan Bates aboard.

The son of Ocean Park and Ballymore's dual stakes winner Hinemoa was not the best out of the gates at Sandown last time out, ending up too far back and performing below his best.

His previous run at Moonee Valley contained merit however and we are hoping that he can be closer to the pace this time.

"He obviously has to be closer to the speed to be competitive," Glen said, hoping that from the inside gate he can be quickly away.

"If he can step well I think he can be right in the finish. It's an open race and his form before that latest run puts him right in the mix."

The following race, a 1400m maiden, sees the debut of the Dundeel filly Indian Hills who has also drawn the inside gate with Declan Bates riding.

She has been coming along nicely but is bred to relish more ground and still has some growing up to do!

"She is still immature and is a real staying sort," Glen said.

"But hopefully from that gate she can put herself into it and run a nice race. Whatever she does she will improve upon and it will be a good experience for her."

A home-bred for Ballymore and her owners, Indian Hills is out of the imported Group 2 placed Street Cry mare Dancing Brave Bear whose dam Baghdaria by Royal Academy won the Gr.3 Indiana Oaks.

Peru (pictured, Racing Photos) is the last of our Friday runners. Unfortunately he has not drawn as well - Declan Bates having to steer him from the second outside gate but we have been happy with him leading into his first up run.

"He has come back in good order," Glen reported, "and this is a nice starting point."

"The gate is a little bit tricky - he will probably have to come back a bit to get in and around Cranbourne you don't want to give them too much of a start."

"He will be better once he gets over further but we will hopefully be seeing him hit the line strongly."

Having his first run since contesting the VRC Derby, the son of Brazen Beau has improved off his fresh runs to date and being from a high class international family whose members include the legendary stallion Sadler's Wells, he is only going to get better with maturity.
