Plymouth makes us proud

What a gallant effort it was by Plymouth in yesterday's Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas, the exciting gelding right in the thick of things despite not having a great deal of luck from an inside gate.

Held up at a vital stage in the straight, Plymouth was never really able to get into full stride yet was still on the heels of the placegetters only 1 1/2 lengths behind Broadsiding.

"We are really proud of him," Glen said.

"He just got stuck in the wrong spot - he needed to get out earlier in the straight to get his momentum going. But it was a great run - on to the Derby now!"

GEELONG BOUND WITH TWO PROMISING RUNNERS

Meanwhile we have runners in the first two races at Geelong today; Declan Bates aboard both kicking off with Pink Lamborghini (pictured) in the 1112m 3Y0 Maiden.

Coming into barrier 7 after scratchings, the daughter of Grunt makes her debut off the back of consistent home-track jump-out form.

"Her jump-outs have been good and she has always be a horse who we have had a high opinion," Glen said.

"It is a bit of a tricky gate - the best scenario is her jumping well and putting herself into the race, is not she may have to come back and get cover."

"But it looks a nice race to kick her off in. Hopefully she does everything right as we think she can go pretty close."

A nice $50,000 purchase by Paul Moroney & Catheryne Bruggeman, the Yulong bred Pink Lamborghini is out of the Gr.3 placed multiple city winning Volksraad mare Better Together whose dam is the dual stakes winner Morangie.

Also bred by Yulong, Tuscaloosa Chief is our second runner of the day and whilst he will be at his best over even longer we are looking forward to seeing what the promising Alabama Express three-year-old can do stepping up to 1726m today.

In restricted room but still good to the line when a close up fourth at Terang when resuming over 1400m last month, the bay has pleased us since.

"He is in really good order," Glen said. "We've been happy with his work and he looks great - he has been holding onto his condition nicely this time in, he is in a really good place at the moment."

"The two favourites have got recent form and are definitely the ones to beat but if our horse runs up to his first up effort he should again be very competitive."

"My only concern is, with a horse who will get over further, that he ran really well first up and sometimes they can be a little flat second up. But to counteract that we have tried to keep him on the fresh side."

"He will be better over further deeper into his campaign but he has drawn well (5) and he should be hitting the line strongly."
