Sunny Sandown

We kick off this sunny Wednesday with Bismarck having his second start - jumping from barrier 5 in the opening event, a 1400m maiden.

Jordan Childs takes the ride on the three-year-old who steps up in trip having not had a great deal of luck at his Sale debut a few weeks ago.

Being a son of Almanzor, Bismarck is only going to get better as he gets up over more ground and this early part of his career has a focus on education.

"He is in good order and working well," Glen reported, "but he is still a bit new and green still - he doesn't really know how to put things together at the end of his work."

"We have been working him with the blinkers on to try and switch him on a bit and we think he can run a better race though he will be better once he we see him past the mile."

Describing Bismarck as "a nice big staying horse," Glen said that the bay just needed "the penny to drop" for him to run a better race today - "if that happened he might sneak a placing, the ability is there."

PACIFIC CROSS DESERVING OF A BREAKTHROUGH

The consistent Pacific Cross is our next runner and she certainly deserves a breakthrough having finished a game runner-up at each of her last five starts.

She drops in grade and rises in class with Blake Shinn aboard in the third event and we are looking forward to seeing the four-year-old run her usual honest race.

"She has been working well in between runs," Glen reported, "and she has given every indication that she will run out the 2400m though you never really know until you try!"

"The tricky gate (10) makes it harder but she has a good, in-form rider on and she should be right in the finish again."

PRETTY IN PINK

Pink Chandon (pictured, Racing Photos) has good form around the favourite Zloties in the fifth race and she strips fitter for her solid first up showing at the Lakeside track.

An impressive Pakenham maiden winner second up last time in, the daughter of Pierro has progressed nicely.

"We have not had to do a great deal with her but she has been working well and we are very happy with her."

"The favourite finished only just in front of her last time and from a better barrier (3) this time she can be a bit closer in the running and prove hard to beat."

BURLINGTON GATE A WORTHY FAVOURITE

Burlington Gate is the last of our quartet of runners, lining up as favourite in the seventh race, an 1800m BM70.

"He has done extremely well in between runs," Glen said of the last start Pakenham winner.

"Coming back in distance (2000m to 1800m) from a wide gate (14) are the question marks but he was very impressive last start. Plus Sandown suits and Blake Shinn is again aboard."

"He is in a really good place at the moment and has been unlucky not to have won a few more this time in," Glen said.
