Group 1 Action At Caulfield

Kicking off our day is Bankers Choice who has drawn nicely in barrier 2 in the third event, a 2000m BM100 contest.

The consistent seven-year-old has been racing well at that level, taking out a similar race two starts ago before finishing close up at Flemington last start
Daniel Stackhouse was aboard for his win and he again takes the ride.

"He heads to the races as well as he can and he is going as good as ever," Glen said.

"Daniel knows him well and from the good gate he can be positive, similar to his last two runs. This is a nice race for him and on his recent form he can be right in the mix."

The Gr.2 Autumn Stakes is one of the features of the day and we will be cheering on the lightly raced and promising Plymouth who is racing for the first time since the spring.

Showing good talent at his first few starts, The Autumn Sun gelding has come up well, pleasing us with a couple of good jump-out efforts.

"He has come through those in very good order and has been nice and bright all week, bouncing about," Glen said.

"He is a horse we have always had a very high opinion of and we think he is up to this race; he just lacked that killer punch in the good races last time in but we have put the blinkers on and he has worked very well in them - hopefully they will make the difference."

"He will be better over longer but we think he can run really well fresh. We just hope he doesn't get stuck on the fence from barrier 1 but he has a good jockey (the in-form Blake Shinn) on board.

The following race on a big card is the Gr.3 JRA Plate in which Buffalo River has also drawn an inside gate (2) with Celine Gaudray aboard.

We are hoping he can make the most of that and step away well, not ending up cluttered away on the fence, but as we know he does have that early pace and he was able to lead when a game third in the Listed Barton Stakes at Sandown last time out.

He returns to his favourite track here, the nine-year-old winner of over $1.4 million in stakes having won four races at Caulfield including two runnings of the Gr.3 Moonga Stakes as well as the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes.

His challenged today is the 1600m though he has won at the trip and in an even race he looks one of the chances.

"We have just kept him ticking over," Glen reported, noting that "he is pretty straight forward, especially this far into a preparation."

"He looks as well as ever, he is nice and bright, his coat looks good. Stepping up to the 1600m is the only question mark but he should run well again."

Seeing out the day is the running of the Gr.3 Peter le Grand Stakes, an 1100m dash for fillies that sees the return of the exciting Certain Rise (photo from Racing Photos).

Blake Shinn is a big fan of the Yulong owned daughter of Written Tycoon, aboard for all three of her starts to date including her victory in the Listed William Crockett Stakes on W.S Cox Plate Day.

He came to Flemington on Tuesday to gallop her and was very happy with her work, Glen noting that "she does seem to have improved from last prep."

"It would've been nice to see her draw a softer gate (she jumps from barrier 9) to get a kinder run" he said.

"It will be a little bit tricky but she will probably roll forward though being the last race we will see what the day's pattern is. All going well she can sit outside the leader or slot in behind the speed; the key is things working out for her over the first 100m."

"In our opinion she is the best horse in the race - she will be better for it but she is in really good order and should prove hard to beat."
