A Quartet Of Summer Runners.

The first of our four runners for the day is First Appearance who showed ability during her debut campaign last autumn, not always having the best of luck.

Given time to mature, the four-year-old Yulong mare pleased us with a recent home-track jump-out second, hitting the line well.

"Hopefully she can do something similar to that today," Glen said.

"Obviously the 1400m is well short of her best and she will get better as she gets over further but if she can run up to her work and her jump-outs, from barrier 3 she is an each-way chance in an open race."

A full sister to the stable's four time Gr.1 winning sprinter Tofane, First Appearance debuted over this same trip at Pakenham last April and was good to the line after getting back from a tricky gate.

Unsuited in a slowly run affair at Geelong at her next outing, she was an improver up to 2124m at Echuca before a spell, finishing off strongly off a slow start - beaten by the recent Moonee Valley winner Expeetee.

Shane Foley has the ride on First Appearance today and from barrier 3 we are hoping that she enjoys a good run.

"She is holding her condition really well this time in," Glen said, "she looks great."

First Appearance's dam Baggy Green has been an outstanding producer. Tofane is her star but she has also been well represented by the Gr.1 Metropolitan Handicap winner No Compromise and the Listed winners Bradman and Benaud.

The following race sees our promising two-year-old Cannyworth have his second start.

Bred by Yulong, the son of their Champion Sire Written Tycoon is racing royalty; hailing from the prolific Shantha's Choice family that has produced a number of topliners including Redoute's Choice.

A solid Seymour fourth at his debut in mid-January, Cannyworth has been working nicely with the addition of blinkers and whilst sometimes racing first time in them can see horses a little tardy out of the gates, we are hoping that our boy can jump well and make the most of barrier 1.

"Hopefully he can put himself into the race," Glen said, "and show good improvement from his first run."

"We have been very happy with him, he is in good order and he has a good jockey (Mark Zahra) aboard."

Not really suited by the way the Seymour race was run, Cannyworth nevertheless enjoyed a good experience that day and at double figure odds we think he can run a nice race.

Our other two runners both contest the sixth race, a 2100m BM70 contest in which Pacific Cross (pictured, photo from Racing Photos) is second favourite whilst Kowhai goes around at bigger odds.

Both horses are stepping up from recent 1600m runs and are suited up in trip and both of them have been pleasing us.

"Pacific Cross is in great order, working well and looking fantastic," Glen said - "we could not be heading to the races with her in any better order."

"At her last run she really looked like she was ready to get out to this trip and she gets her chance to put her best foot forward today."

"The favourite Tarvue beat her last time and is the main horse to beat. Our gate (8) is a little bit tricky so she will probably have to go back and get cover - hopefully she can show that nice turn of foot she has."

Kowhai meanwhile has drawn the inside gate, one which "gives her a nice chance to get a soft run just behind the speed somewhere."

"We were really happy with her last run," Glen said of the four-year-old's Kilmore fourth on a track that was playing strongly to leaders.

"If she can run up to that run and to her work she is a really good chance in an open race," said Glen, adding that "this race is a good chance to see where she is at."
