Sandown winners return to Sandown

Our action is later in the day, kicking off in R8 with stable stalwart Buffalo River who is a leading contender in the Listed John Dillon Stakes.

Looking to secure his fourth win in stakes company, the tough campaigner is still showing plenty of enthusiasm for his racing at nine - pleasing us in a recent Werribee jump-out where he “showed zest.”

Glen was delighted with that performance and how the horse has gone on with it since - “he came through that jump-out in really good order and today’s race looks a good fit for him.”

“It’s a small field and he is the best horse in the race, we just hope that he jumps away well and can dictate things up in front.”

Whilst in recent times he has taken bit longer to take his customary role in the lead, Buffalo River does have a few things in his favour today; the size of the field, a good barrier draw (3) and Celine Gaudray on board; a jockey he has clicked with.

And he loves the Sandown 1400m - three runs, two wins!

Also proven at the track is General Firepower who lines up in the final event, a 1200m BM74 in which he jumps from barrier 2 with apprentice Tom Prebble claiming 3kg.

He too went to the Werribee jump-outs where his work was pleasing and he has, said Glen “been nice and bright all week.”

“He is in really good shape and hopefully from that good draw he can put himself into a nice spot. If he runs up to his jump-out he should be very competitive; we expect him to run well in an open race.”

General Firepower got back from a trickier gate when resuming over the same trip at Moonee Valley and was far from disgraced. His second up form is good and we look forward to seeing him progress through his preparation.
