“We have given him three jump-outs and he has picked up and improved each time.”

“Without any doubt this is a reasonable race but he has shown above average ability.”

“He has not shown a lot of gate speed but barrier 1 should have him in the first half of the field, he just needs that bit of luck in running.”

“He is untried on wet ground and they are predicting a bit of rain so that would be a question mark,” Michael said.

A $400,000 graduate of the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Southern Slammer is a son of the Ballymore trained Gr.1 C.F Orr Stakes winner Alabama Express.

Bred by Yulong Stud - home to Alabama Express - he is out of the imported Shamardal mare Ghadaayer from a strong international family whose members include the Gr.1 Dubai World Cup hero Victoire Pisa and the multiple Gr.1 winner Rebel’s Romance.
