Coastal Classic Day - three nice horses

Our first runner for the day is Big Watch who has his second run for this campaign, taking his place in the 5th race at Geelong, a BM84 contest over 1100m with apprentice Jett Stanley claiming 2kg.

"He has trained on really well since his first up run," Michael said, noting that the five-year-old is capable of coming to hand quickly.

"His work has been nice, he has taken good improvement and I think this is a nice race for him."

Better suited at Geelong than he was at The Heath when resuming, Big Watch has only five rivals and despite being the outsider of the field, the stable is confident that "he is a good winning chance."

Burlington Gate also finds a small field but has a trickier gate - 7 of eight runners - to contend with as she resumes in the 7th race, a F&M BM70 over 1400m.

Having her first run since June last year, the daughter of The Autumn Sun is at her best over more ground but she has run well at both of her first up runs and Michael has been pleased with her progress this time in.

"She has had a couple of nice jump-outs and we've been happy with her. She will need a bit of luck from that draw but she goes into this reasonably forward and is going well enough - so long as she gets luck in running she will run well, though she will improve in fitness."

Daniel Stackhouse rides the four-year-old who has been consistent through her ten start career, winning two races and figuring in the placings on a further four occasions.

The following race is the day's feature, the $300,000 Coastal Classic and we are excited to have a runner with Mathletic (pictured, photo from Racing Photos) one of the main chances in what looks to be an even race.

Daniel Moor takes the ride on the imported grey who found some early trouble at Moonee Valley last week and another 100m is going to suit him today.

"We are really happy with him," Michael said, "he has had a couple of little niggles this time in but we go into this race without any problems, he is fit and I would not be surprised if he runs really well even though it is a strong enough race."

One thing in Mathletic's favour is the fact that he comes in at the minimum of 53kg with Michael noting that "he gets 7kg off the top weight, that's a lot of weight."

Our evening runner is Fort Laramie who heads to Cranbourne to contest the 5th race, a 1400m maiden with Connor Murtagh to ride from barrier 4.

The three-year-old is yet to run a placing, not always with the best of luck, but is showing more in track work - "he is going really well, we can't fault him," Michael said.

"His work here on Tuesday was really good enough to win a maiden anywhere so we are going there with a little bit of confidence."

"The only little question mark is the 1400m but he just has to jump away and put himself into the race - we are hoping he gets an easy lead and rates himself nicely which would give him the chance to kick away and win."
