A BIG DAY FOR THE TEAM AT CAULFIELD

A Group One day at Caulfield and we have five runners including Benagil, Buffalo River, Run Harry Run and War Machine in the feature races.

Benagil (pictured) runs in the Thousand Guineas over 1600 metres with Luke Currie riding from barrier 10 and the stable has made a gear change to help the filly.

“She’s made her life difficult by wanting to hang in at a crucial time so we’ve fitted her with a bubble cheeker for today,” co-trainer Glen Thompson explained.

“She’s done particularly well since her last start, her work on Tuesday with Run Harry Run was excellent and she heads to the races in terrific order.

“If the gear does the trick and she does everything right from a tricky barrier then we think she will be right in the finish.”

Buffalo River, Run Harry Run and War Machine all run in the Group One Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400 metres.

Declan Bates is aboard War Machine who has drawn ideally in barrier four.

“He has come back from Sydney in good order and we’re very happy with him,” Glen said.

“He gets a big weight jump and if he steps away then he should get an ideal run just behind the speed.

“We think he’s a horse on the up and a reproduction of his Sydney runs certainly will give him a good chance.”

Run Harry Run will jump from barrier two under Patrick Moloney.

“He’s come on for his two runs this prep and he goes to the races today in as good a shape as we can have him,” Glen said.

“We’ve added the blinkers to help him, he has form around two of the favourites in Jimmysstar and Another Wil so with natural improvement and the blinkers to sharpen him we feel he’s there to run a big race.”

Celine Gaudrey again rides Buffalo River who does his fast work on the treadmill now but the nine-year-old is ready to run another bold race like his last start second in the Moonga Stakes over today’s course and distance.

“He’s bouncing and happy, in good order and goes to the races as well as we can have him,” Glen said.

“Celine knows him and will let him get balanced up from the wide barrier, which actually suits. He drops a lot in weight and if he can reproduce his last start then he will give a bold show for a long way.”

Milford runs in the Victorian Country Cup Final over 2000 metres with Declan Bates to ride and drawn barrier eight.

“He’s done well this week and galloped well on Tuesday,” Glen said. “He goes well for Declan and if he can bounce back to his best then he’s definitely right in the finish.

"His last start in the Sale Cup was puzzling but the step up in trip today suits him ideally.

“The barrier could make things a bit tricky but Declan is riding well and as i say, if he brings his A-game then he’s a winning chance.”
