STYLISH DOUBLE AT BENDIGO

Ballymore Stables took four to Bendigo confident of getting a winner on Wednesday and came home with a double thanks to Bancory Bay and Stylish.

Bancory Bay (pictured) is still raw but showed his grit and tenacity to wear down the odds-on favourite Dancing Dolly to win with a little in hand at the end of the 1500 metres with stablemate Gunner pleasing in fourth.

Co-trainer Glen Thompson was confident the step up in trip and natural improvement would bring out the best in the son of Fastnet Rock and his confidence was not displaced.

“I thought it was a good effort, aided by a good ride from Jye (McNeil) who got him into a good spot early,” Glen said.

“The favourite kicked off the bend but our horse dug deep to chase her down. He will only improve for this he has a lot of scope for further development.

“I think the further he goes, the better he’ll get but he’s a nice horse with a future for sure.”

Glen was happy with the effort from Gunner.

“He did everything right and happy with the run, he’s definitely going to be better over further but he’s definitely heading in the right direction.”

Jye McNeil said the race fell perfectly despite the small field.

“It worked out fantastic for him today,” Jye said. “When the leader skipped away off the bend he chased really well, he still has a bit to learn, he still didn’t know how to put the race away but I think he has the potential to debelop into a really nice horse.”

Stylish lived up to her name with an impressive win first-up, swooping home in the final stages wo win going away under Declan Bates.

“That was very pleasing, especially to see her finish off like that,” Glen said.

“She will improve a lot for the that but to see her win like that gives us confidence for the future. She has always shown us nice ability and Declan gave her a lovely ride - to see her finish like that gives us plenty to look forward to as we head into a good time of year to have a horse in form.”

Declan was full of praise for Stylish.

“She was really good today, she travelled nice but she quickened that well I almost got there a bit too soon, she’s certainly in for a good prep.”
