CAVALRY MAN WINS

CAVALRY!

The step up from a maiden win to a BM64 whilst also rising in distance is never an easy one to take; and it is usually a good horse who can do it.

Such as Cavalry Man who railed so well at Kyneton on Wednesday, finding the line in game style over 1856m having won a Seymour maiden over a mile at his previous outing.

Showing ability during his debut campaign, Cavalry Man has come back a stronger horse though there is still more to come for the son of So You Think.

"He is probably going to be better again next preparation," Glen Thompson said.

"He has come back in really good order though and we do have a high opinion of him. And he will definitely get out over further."

"He had been working well and he definitely improved off his first up run, we had come here with a lot of confidence."
Declan Bates, who was also aboard the four-year-old when he won his maiden, also said that there is still plenty of upside for the lightly raced gelding.

"Both times I've ridden him he has loomed as though he is going to put them away but then he just floats a bit."

"He is really starting to put it all together but it still feels as though he has more to come."

"He has a good turn of foot and hopefully he can continue this winning streak."

Whilst Cavalry Man had got back from a wide gate when resuming, he drew in this time with Bates noting that he raced a little more on the bridle - "he was actually a bit stronger than I would've liked."

This all augurs well for Cavalry Man's future!

Raced by Ballymore Stables with a big group of loyal clients and friends, Cavalry Man was bred by Kia Ora Stud, catching Paul Moroney's eye at the 2022 William Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where it took $320,000 to secure him.

"He was just a cracking type and one of the stand-outs at that sale."

"He has that lovely High Chaparral movement and he is shaped like Sadler's Wells; that sleek athlete type rather than being big and robust."

"He is still a work in progress but he is heading in the right direction and I think in twelve months time we are going to see a horse able to make it in Group class."

Cavalry Man is one of the seven winners (from as many foals) for the Listed winning Reset mare Warpath whose daughter Positive Peace is a dual Group winner.

Also dam of the stakes placed Rotator and Alkaashef, Warpath won seven of her 13 starts and she is one of the eight winners for her dam, the city winner Only Vanda - also grandam of the Group 3 winning juvenile Limestone.

Cavalry Man is a descendant of the famed matriarch Plucky Liege who is described as being "one of the most important broodmares of the 20th century."

Hopefully he can continue to add to her legacy!
